Use the scientific method for scientific writing
The Science Writing Revolution present the TooWrite Platform, a ground-breaking scientific writing tool for researchers.
The Movement with the Method
The Movement
The Science Writing Revolution is a movement led by academics to supercharge scientific communication and collaboration.
The Method
The TooWrite Platform is an innovative digital tool created by academics for academics, one that may be used to teach and execute effective communication of research in the form of abstracts, journal papers, doctoral theses, and grant applications.
The Movement
The Science Writing Revolution is a collective of researchers formed in partnership with a number of UK universities. Our mission is to accelerate global data-sharing and innovation in STEM, while improving the lives of scientists, and shifting professional focus and resources back towards the research that matters.
Communication
- To ensure high quality and efficient story-telling through impactful narratives that can inform and inspire future scientific progress.
Mental Health
- To reduce the mental health burden placed on scientists by the writing process and need to publish, while improving the work / life balance of researchers in STEM.
Accessibility
- To make a career in STEM and the communication of research equally accessible to scientists who are neurodivergent, non-native English speaking, and/or are working parents or carers.
Collaboration
- To facilitate domestic and international collaboration on written projects for interdisciplinary, neurotype-diverse, and polylinguistic teams.
Research
- To accelerate the process of scientific innovation through enhanced data-sharing and shifting resources away from a lengthy writing process back towards research.
The Method
The TooWrite Platform is a scientific writing tool that houses the novel scientific method for scientific writing. The method combines the science of productivity with linguistic research performed on published papers to result in a means of teaching and executing scientific writing.
The TooWrite Platform
The traditional method used in scientific writing is akin to writing an essay; the time required is lengthy and the process can be both mentally exhausting and fraught with accessibility issues. On the TooWrite Platform however, scientific writing is more like answering a self-composed questionnaire in which writing tasks are split into short 2-4 sentence sprints, supported by a toolkit of formulaic writing techniques.
TooWrite Abstracts
This tool is the first step in a complete 360° scientific writing platform. TooWrite Abstracts may be used to write quick and compelling abstracts for journal papers and conferences.
In time, the TooWrite Platform will also support scientists in writing journal papers, doctoral theses, and grant applications. Each of these functionalities will be launched over the coming months / years as we refine our approach through community-driven research.

Testimonials
“This is a milestone in academia. I can see how important this is, it is so clear this is the future. I have no words to describe the amount of genius in this method. I truly believe this solution will benefit the scientific community around the globe, and I want a better world.”
A scientist from The British Museum
How it all began
Meet Algernon.
Towards the end of 2019, Algernon found himself in an exciting position. After 4 years of doctoral work at Bart's Cancer Institute, he had completed his PhD research with a proven hypothesis and the offer of a post doc. The only thing left to do was to write up his successes in a thesis.
However, what should have felt like a victory lap instead came to feel like yet another hurdle to overcome. After 12 months of diligent writing he only had a few thousand words to show for it.
So what was this scientist to do when finding themselves faced with a literary challenge? They asked a literature academic (Ivy) for help.
After trying all the traditional methods, Ivy decided to create a whole new method of writing for Algernon in the hopes it'd help things along, at least a little.
25 working hours later, Algernon returned with 15,000 words in tow.
Which then passed viva with only minor corrections.
Ivy and Alge turned to one another and said “...what if every scientist had access to this method?”
A month later The Science Writing Revolution was formed.
Our Progress
Beta Trials
TooWrite Abstracts was tested with scientists from Bart’s Cancer Institute, The University of Glasgow, Queen Mary University London, and Southampton University, with each test exceeding expectations by 200-300%.
On the Cover of Research Information
That's right! We've been featured on the cover of Research Information Magazine's Spring '22 edition. Read it here.
In the Media
Read an interview by Kulturamag with our co-founder & CEO who speaks about the origins and mission of TSWrevolution. Read it here.
Pilots
The launch of TooWrite Abstracts will commence with pilots at Queen Mary University London and The University of Sussex.
Venture Capital Funding
TSWrevolution received financial backing from ‘tech for good’ venture capital fund, Bethnal Green Ventures. Their investment thesis focuses on ventures that are capable of positively affecting 100 million lives.
Partnerships
To further our mission we are partnering with the University of Sussex and have partnered with ASPECT International (a collaboration of 21 UK universities, including Oxford and Glasgow). TSWrevolution is also a partner of the Simulation for Digital Health accelerator (formed in partnership with London South Bank University).
Launch
We launched the first component of the TooWrite Platform, TooWrite Abstracts on the 21st of March 2022.
